TA Day 79 – Ridgelines and rewards

Today – 13.5km from Starveall hut to camp spot at 1859.8km

Total – 1859.8km

After an amazing night sleep in such a scenic spot, I woke to a glorious sunrise while having breke in bed.

Today was a series of climbs and descends on the ridges, first up was Mt Starveall.

Epic views on the climb up and from the top it was incredible.

Caught up with Laine and Iben and Ralph and tramped with them the rest of the day.

Enroute was Slaty hut, another cute little 6 bunker. Had a nice relaxed break there. Eating pretzels dipped in peanut butter, yum.

Headed onwards up another big climb, smashed it out and then had a glorious lunch on the summit, views for days.

Down down down and then into the forest briefly before the last big climb of the day upto Old Man peak.

This one was a classic orange marker poles straight up the side of a mountain.

Everyone hiked like champs today with so much up and down we made great time with long leisurely breaks.

The pictures do the talking today, the views were incredible, it was one of my favourite scenery days on trail so far.

We found a campspot just before tommorrows first ascent , nestled in the trees on the ridge. Laine and Ralph offered to do the water top up trip down to Old Man hut, as one of the huts has no water tommorrow so we need to take enough for the day, and for camping tonight.

We decided to camp as it would have meant a 200m ascent just to get back to the trail tommorrow if we stayed at Old Man hut tonight.
